Shelburne is a public port on Nova Scotia's south shore listed on Transport Canada's list of owned ports (Atlantic Region), with day-to-day operation of the Shelburne Marine Terminal handled by the Town of Shelburne. The terminal provides wharf and cargo-handling facilities for vessels carrying diverse cargoes including containers, bulk commodities and fish products, and it also serves as a cruise destination. Located in Shelburne Harbour (often cited as one of the world's best natural harbours), the ice-free port has an 800 m-wide channel with a minimum depth of about 9 m and requires no pilot; the main wharf is a T-shaped structure with a 130 m stem and a 163 m T-section offering depths of roughly 9.5-10.5 m. Adjacent terminal lands are leased to marine businesses including Clearwater Seafoods.
