Tete-a-la-Baleine
Tete-a-la-Baleine, QC · Transport Canada · Transport Canada · Gulf of St. Lawrence (Lower North Shore / Côte-Nord)
Tete-a-la-Baleine is a remote public port facility owned by Transport Canada (Quebec Region) on the Lower North Shore (Côte-Nord) of the Gulf of St. Lawrence, serving an isolated francophone community of roughly 100 residents that is accessible only by air, boat, or snowmobile. The wharf functions primarily as a community resupply point: it is a regular port of call for Relais Nordik's MV Bella Desgagnés cargo-passenger ship (Groupe Desgagnés), which transships general goods and passengers to the village, where marine transportation is the primary mode of supply. The facility has also seen wharf-completion work to bring hydrocarbon/fuel transfer installations up to standard for the community. It is one of the small federally owned ports that Transport Canada maintains because marine access is essential to communities without road connections.
