ArcelorMittal Long Products Canada — Contrecoeur Steel Plant Wharf

Contrecoeur, QC · Private · ArcelorMittal Long Products Canada · St. Lawrence River (south shore)

Private industrial wharf serving the ArcelorMittal Contrecoeur steel complex on the south shore of the St. Lawrence River, about 55 km east of Montreal. The complex comprises a direct-reduction (DRI, two Midrex shaft furnaces) plant, two steel plants (Contrecoeur East and West with electric arc furnaces), a bar mill and a wire rod mill, producing roughly 2 million tonnes of steel per year (billets, bars, wire rod) from scrap and metallized iron using hydroelectric power. Raw materials — iron ore concentrate/pellets and DRI feed produced at ArcelorMittal's Port-Cartier and northern-Quebec mining operations — are brought in by Great-Lakes/St. Lawrence bulk carrier (e.g., the Algoma Integrity shuttling between Port-Cartier and Contrecoeur) and by rail. The facility is operated by ArcelorMittal Long Products Canada and is distinct from the adjacent Montreal Port Authority container terminal at Contrecoeur.
