Chandler
Chandler, QC · Transport Canada · Transport Canada · Chaleur Bay (Gulf of St. Lawrence)
The Chandler quay is a federally owned public port facility on Chaleur Bay (Gulf of St. Lawrence) on the south coast of the Gaspe Peninsula, roughly 130 km southwest of Gaspe. Owned and administered by Transport Canada's Quebec Region, it is listed on the federal roster as both a Public port and a Local/regional port facility. The commercial quay historically served passenger/cruise calls by the CTMA Vacancier vessel on the Montreal–Magdalen Islands route, but Transport Canada closed it to the public in September 2016 after it was judged unsafe and unmaintained. The City of Chandler has been seeking transfer of the quay under the Ports Asset Transfer Program (PATP) since 2010, with restoration costs estimated between $16M and $60M and a proposed redevelopment into a recreational waterfront with relocation of the adjacent municipal marina; the transfer remains pending and the structure still belongs to Transport Canada.
