Rio Tinto Fer et Titane — Sorel-Tracy Wharf
Sorel-Tracy, QC · Private · Rio Tinto Fer et Titane · St. Lawrence River
The Sorel-Tracy wharf is the private marine terminal serving Rio Tinto Fer et Titane's Critical Minerals and Metallurgical Complex on the St. Lawrence River. It receives ore carriers delivering crushed ilmenite shipped roughly 880 km by boat from the company's port terminal at Havre-Saint-Pierre (fed by the Lac Tio mine), and is used to ship out finished products including titanium dioxide feedstock, pig iron and specialized steel. The complex processes the ilmenite into pigment feedstock supplying about 19% of global titanium dioxide demand, plus pig iron, steel and scandium oxide. The wharf was expanded in 2006-2007 so it could berth two ships simultaneously.
