Port of Matane

Matane, QC · Provincial · Government of Quebec · St. Lawrence River / Gulf of St. Lawrence (lower estuary, ~400 km downstream of Quebec City)

The Port of Matane is a maritime-road-rail transportation hub on the lower St. Lawrence/Gulf of St. Lawrence in Eastern Quebec, roughly 400 km downstream from Quebec City, with year-round navigation. It handles forest products, general cargo, dry bulk, wind turbine components and de-icing salt, welcoming commercial vessels carrying pulp, liquid bulk and dry bulk; its commercial wharf offers about 186 m of berth (10 m max depth) plus indoor and outdoor laydown storage with CN rail at the wharf and Route 132 access. The port is owned by the Government of Quebec through the Société portuaire du Bas-Saint-Laurent et de la Gaspésie (SPBSG), which took it over from Transport Canada in 2020, while QSL acts as the terminal operator providing stevedoring, warehousing and marine services. Matane is also a transport node for the CN railcar ferry to Baie-Comeau and the STQ passenger/vehicle ferry to Baie-Comeau and Godbout.
