LNG Canada Marine Terminal
Kitimat, BC · Private · LNG Canada Development Inc · Douglas Channel
The LNG Canada Marine Terminal is Canada's first large-scale liquefied natural gas (LNG) export facility, located at the Port of Kitimat at the head of Douglas Channel in the traditional territory of the Haisla Nation, on a year-round ice-free deep-water inlet. Operated by LNG Canada (Shell-led joint venture), the terminal liquefies pipeline-delivered natural gas and loads it onto ocean-going LNG carriers bound mainly for Asian markets; Phase 1 runs two processing trains for a total capacity of about 14 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa). The marine terminal includes a jetty able to accommodate one LNG carrier plus a tugboat dock, with carriers transiting Douglas Channel to and from open water. The facility loaded its first cargo on June 30, 2025, and vessel masters must clear the Shell Group Maritime Assurance System (GMAS) before berthing.
