Cedar LNG is a floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) export facility under construction in the Douglas Channel near Kitimat, BC, within Haisla Nation traditional territory. With a nameplate capacity of approximately 3.3 million tonnes per annum, it will chill pipeline natural gas to -162C aboard a moored floating LNG vessel for export to overseas markets, using the existing deep-water shipping lane through Douglas Channel to Hecate Strait. Billed as the world's first Indigenous majority-owned LNG project, it is jointly owned by the Haisla Nation (50.1%) and Pembina Pipeline Corporation (49.9%); the FLNG unit is being built by Samsung Heavy Industries (hull and topsides) and Black & Veatch (PRICO liquefaction technology), and the plant will be powered by renewable BC Hydro electricity. A positive Final Investment Decision was taken June 25, 2024, with an expected in-service date of late 2028.
