Construction Aggregates Sechelt Terminal
Sechelt, BC · Private · Construction Aggregates Limited · Strait of Georgia (Salish Sea), at Trail Bay on the Sechelt isthmus
Private marine load-out terminal serving Construction Aggregates Limited's Sechelt sand, gravel and granite operation — one of the largest open-pit aggregate mines in North America, operating since 1988 on the isthmus between the Strait of Georgia and Sechelt Inlet (within shíshálh Nation territory). A 1.1 km conveyor feeds a quadrant-style shiploader (installed 2000) rated at ~4,500 tonnes/hour, loading sand, crushed rock and small stone onto deep-sea self-unloading bulk carriers. Out of roughly 6 million tonnes mined annually, about 1.5 million tonnes of aggregate is shipped by sea to California (San Francisco Bay area customers such as Hanson Aggregates), carried by CSL self-unloaders. The site is ISPS-compliant and is owned/operated by CAL, an affiliate of Lehigh Hanson / Heidelberg Materials.
