LNG Canada Export Terminal

Kitimat, BC · Private · LNG Canada Development Inc · Douglas Channel / Kitimat Arm

LNG Canada is Canada's first large-scale liquefied natural gas export terminal, located at the head of the Douglas Channel (Kitimat Arm) in Kitimat, BC, on the traditional territory of the Haisla Nation and built on the former Methanex/Eurocan industrial site. The facility liquefies natural gas (piped in via the Coastal GasLink pipeline) and loads it onto LNG carriers for export to global, primarily Asian, markets; Phase 1 comprises two processing trains with a combined capacity of approximately 14 million tonnes per annum (mtpa). The marine terminal includes one carrier loading berth plus a tugboat dock, with loaded carriers escorted roughly 300 km out the Douglas Channel to open ocean. The facility is owned by a five-company international joint venture (Shell, Petronas, PetroChina, Mitsubishi, KOGAS) and loaded its first cargo on June 30, 2025; it is not within any Canada Port Authority.
