Harmac Pacific Pulp Mill Terminal
Nanaimo, BC · Private · Nanaimo Forest Products Ltd · Northumberland Channel (Strait of Georgia / Salish Sea)
Harmac Pacific is a private deep-sea terminal serving Nanaimo Forest Products Ltd.'s three-line Northern Bleached Softwood Kraft (NBSK) pulp mill on the east coast of Vancouver Island, south of and separate from the Nanaimo Port Authority harbour on Northumberland Channel. The mill produces roughly 380,000 tonnes per year of NBSK pulp from sawmill wood residues and logs unsuitable for sawmills, and the company states its deep-sea port location is a significant cost advantage for serving overseas customers. The wharf exports baled pulp by ocean vessel to major markets in Asia, the USA, Europe and Latin America (for tissue, packaging, paper and technical applications) and supports inbound delivery of wood fibre raw material. The site, which employs over 350 staff, also runs a green-power generation facility that has supplied carbon-neutral electricity to BC Hydro since 2014.
