Baker Lake / Rankin Inlet Sealift Laydown (Agnico Eagle Kivalliq)
Baker Lake / Rankin Inlet, NU · Private · Agnico Eagle Mines Limited · Hudson Bay (Rankin Inlet on west coast; Baker Lake inland via Chesterfield Inlet)
Private mine-resupply sealift offload/laydown areas operated for Agnico Eagle Mines at the communities of Baker Lake and Rankin Inlet, Nunavut, during the short open-water season. The sites land fuel and dry cargo by vessel for transfer to the Meadowbank Complex (about 110 km north of Baker Lake) and the Meliadine gold mine (about 25 km north of Rankin Inlet); a typical season involves roughly five full dry-cargo vessels to Rankin Inlet (three shared with the Meadowbank Complex) plus additional vessels to Baker Lake, each docked about 7-10 days. There is no fixed deep-sea wharf: offload is lighterage/boat-launch and equipment-based (e.g., the Itivia boat launch at Rankin Inlet), with cargo then hauled overland by all-weather access road. Rankin Inlet sits on the west coast of Hudson Bay, while Baker Lake is reached about 300 km inland via the tidal, strong-current Chesterfield Inlet.
