Walpole Island is a Transport Canada-owned public port classified as a local/regional port facility, located on the Walpole Island First Nation reserve on the St. Clair River delta near the northeast corner of Lake St. Clair in Ontario. The facility is a wharf protected by breakwaters that serves as the Canadian terminal for the Walpole-Algonac international ferry, a passenger and vehicle service crossing the St. Clair River to Algonac, Michigan, USA. The ferry has operated in some form since at least 1922 and is run daily (365 days/year, weather permitting) by the private operator Walpole Algonac Ferry Ltd. The port supports community marine access rather than bulk cargo handling.
