Cargill Sarnia Grain Terminal
Sarnia, ON · Private · Cargill Ltd · St. Clair River
A deep-water grain transfer elevator operated by Cargill Ltd. on the St. Clair River in Sarnia, Ontario, in operation since 1927. The terminal receives grain (corn, soybeans, wheat and other Ontario crops) by truck and rail from southwestern Ontario farms, and provides storage, cleaning, and drying, then ships grain out by Great Lakes vessel. Outbound grain is typically moved to Cargill's Baie-Comeau, QC terminal on the St. Lawrence for transshipment onto ocean-going ships for export, and the facility is described as handling a large share of southern Ontario's grain exports. It is a privately owned commercial terminal employing roughly 24 full-time staff.
