Suncor Sarnia Refinery dock

Sarnia, ON · Private · Suncor Energy Inc · St. Clair River

The Suncor Sarnia refinery is an 85,000 barrel-per-day petroleum refinery on the east bank of the St. Clair River in Sarnia-Lambton's "Chemical Valley," in operation since 1952. It includes a private marine dock used to move petroleum and petrochemical products by tanker; refined products are otherwise delivered to Ontario distribution terminals via the Sun-Canadian Pipeline or shipped to customers by marine vessel and rail. The site (processing units include atmospheric/vacuum distillation, hydrocracking, naphtha reforming, hydrotreating and a historic Houdry cat cracker) is owned and operated by Suncor Energy Inc. and supports roughly 500 employees and contractors. The dock has been the site of marine loading incidents, confirming its role in vessel-based product transfer on the river.
