Shell Sarnia Manufacturing Centre dock

Corunna, ON · Private · Shell Canada · St. Clair River

The Shell Sarnia Manufacturing Centre is an oil refinery and chemical plant on the St. Clair River in Corunna, about 10 km south of Sarnia, Ontario. The refinery processes roughly 75,000-85,000 barrels per day of crude oil into gasoline, diesel, jet fuel, distillates, liquefied petroleum gas, heavy oil, and chemicals/solvents, and the adjacent Shell Chemical plant is a major North American producer of isopropyl alcohol. The site uses a marine dock on the St. Clair River to receive crude and ship refined product, complementing distribution via the Sun-Canadian Pipeline and rail. Owned and operated by Shell Canada (acquired in 1963; originally built in 1952 by Canadian Oil), the facility employs roughly 350-380 people plus contractors.
