Port of Owen Sound

Owen Sound, ON · Municipal · Transport Canada · Georgian Bay (Lake Huron), at the mouth of the Sydenham River

The Port of Owen Sound is a commercial harbour on the south shore of Georgian Bay (Lake Huron) at the mouth of the Sydenham River, often described as the only operating commercial port on Georgian Bay. It is a Transport Canada public port and handles bulk commodities, primarily grain (about 107,000 tonnes/year) along with cement (~8,400 t/yr) and calcium chloride/road salt (~16,000 t/yr), plus winter vessel lay-up and maintenance. Parrish & Heimbecker (operating locally as Great Lakes Elevator Co. Ltd) runs a large grain terminal at the inner harbour with roughly 93,000 tonnes of storage capacity across about 300 bins. The harbour is about 4,500 ft long with a depth near 22 ft and serves a mix of commercial and recreational use.
