Port Charlottetown is Prince Edward Island's busiest common-user marine terminal, located on Charlottetown Harbour where the Hillsborough River meets the Northumberland Strait. As a general-cargo and cruise facility it handles sand, gravel, petroleum products and agricultural fertilizer in addition to a large cruise-ship business, supporting an estimated $32.6 million in annual spending and 446 FTE jobs across PEI. The port operates five berths ranging from 91.5 m to 217 m in length with depths from -6.0 m to -16.0 m and a 420 m turning basin. It is owned and operated by Charlottetown Harbour Authority Inc., a local non-profit corporation that took ownership when Transport Canada divested the public port to it in 2005 under the federal Ports Asset Transfer Program.
