Long Harbour

Long Harbour, NL · Transport Canada · Transport Canada · Placentia Bay (Atlantic Ocean)

Long Harbour is a federal public port owned by Transport Canada and overseen by its Atlantic Region, located in the community of Long Harbour on the south/east side of Placentia Bay, southeastern Newfoundland (near 47°25′N 53°51′W). As with other Transport Canada public ports, the federal department holds the facility but does not operate cargo itself; commercial marine activity is arranged through the private sector. This Transport Canada wharf is a separate facility from the adjacent, privately owned Vale (Vale Base Metals) Long Harbour Nickel Processing Plant terminal, which handles bulk nickel/copper/cobalt concentrate shipments for the deepwater industrial site nearby. Long Harbour is a small, deepwater natural harbour serving the local community and regional marine traffic on Placentia Bay.
