Inuvik Marine Terminal (MTS)
Inuvik, NT · Territorial · Government of the Northwest Territories - Department of Infrastructure · Mackenzie River (East Channel), Mackenzie Delta / Beaufort Sea
The Inuvik Marine Terminal is a freight-handling terminal operated by Marine Transportation Services (MTS), a division of the Government of the Northwest Territories Department of Infrastructure, in the Beaufort Delta region. It serves as a transshipment point on the Mackenzie River system for the annual marine resupply of deck cargo and bulk petroleum (fuel) products to Western Arctic communities, moved by MTS's fleet of shallow-draft tugboats and barges. MTS, which has run the service since taking it over from the private sector in 2017, sails roughly from June to October and serves communities including Inuvik, Aklavik, Tuktoyaktuk, Sachs Harbour, Paulatuk, Ulukhaktok, and Kugluktuk. In recent low-water seasons the Inuvik terminal's operations have at times been disrupted, with cargo staging shifted toward Tuktoyaktuk.
