Saint-Augustin (Pointe-à-la-Truite)
Saint-Augustin, QC · Transport Canada · Transport Canada · Saint-Augustin River / Gulf of St. Lawrence (Lower North Shore)
Saint-Augustin (Pointe-à-la-Truite) is a remote port facility owned by Transport Canada in the Quebec Region, serving the community of Saint-Augustin on Quebec's Lower North Shore (Basse-Côte-Nord), where marine transportation is the primary mode of access. The Pointe-à-la-Truite wharf is the transshipment point for general freight and supplies arriving aboard the NM Bella-Desgagnés (the Relais Nordik supply ship), which cannot navigate the shallow Saint-Augustin River up to the village. Cargo is offloaded at the wharf and carried the remaining distance to Saint-Augustin by a smaller dedicated vessel; the Société des traversiers du Québec (STQ) operates the NM Rivière-Saint-Augustin to move this merchandise between Pointe-à-la-Truite and the village. The facility is a small remote/supply wharf rather than a commercial cargo terminal, functioning as an essential lifeline for an isolated Lower North Shore community.
