Port of Yarmouth
Yarmouth, NS · Transport Canada · Transport Canada · Yarmouth Harbour (Bay of Fundy / Gulf of Maine)
The Port of Yarmouth sits on Yarmouth Harbour at the southwestern tip of Nova Scotia, where the Bay of Fundy meets the Gulf of Maine, and is one of four Nova Scotia ports designated for international vessel entry as the first secure port of destination from the U.S. eastern seaboard. Commercial lobster fishing is its primary industry — the surrounding waters are among Canada's most productive fishing grounds — and the port offers multiple berths with shore power, an on-site ice plant, parking, and TC MARSEC port-security certification. Yarmouth is on Transport Canada's list of federally owned public ports for Nova Scotia, with day-to-day commercial operations managed locally by the Port of Yarmouth (linked to the Municipality of the District of Yarmouth); the port manager is Greg Shay and the wharfinger/MFSO is Greg Nestor. The adjacent municipally owned ferry terminal (58 Water Street) hosts the seasonal high-speed "CAT" ferry to Bar Harbor, Maine, operated by Bay Ferries Ltd., which carried roughly 50,000 passengers and 20,000 vehicles in 2024.
