Port of Miguasha (Nouvelle)
Nouvelle, QC · Transport Canada · Transport Canada · Chaleur Bay (Baie des Chaleurs)
The Miguasha wharf is a Transport Canada-owned public wharf in the Miguasha sector of the municipality of Nouvelle, on the north shore of Chaleur Bay in Quebec's Gaspesie region (about 20 km west of Carleton). It is listed under Transport Canada's Ports Asset Transfer Program (PATP) and is no longer operational: the wharf has been condemned for several years and closed even to pedestrians due to collapse risk, and Transport Canada has advanced an environmental assessment (IAAC ref. 83056) for demolition of the structure (sheet piles, dolphins, wooden casings, concrete walls, riprap) and sediment rehabilitation. The municipality of Nouvelle has been in negotiations with Transport Canada to acquire the wharf in order to restore public sea access. The adjacent pier, timber jetties, floating docks and rubble breakwater to the east are administered separately by Fisheries and Oceans Canada.
