Port of Holyrood

Holyrood, NL · Transport Canada · Transport Canada · Conception Bay (South Arm of Holyrood Bay), Atlantic Ocean

Holyrood is a Transport Canada-owned public port located in the South Arm of Holyrood Bay at the head/southern end of Conception Bay on the southeast coast of Newfoundland. The port functions primarily as a petroleum-receiving facility: heavy fuel oil (No. 6 / 0.7% sulphur) tankers discharge at a marine berth serving the adjacent Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro Holyrood Thermal Generating Station, an oil-fired plant of roughly 490 MW that historically supplied up to ~40% of the island's electricity and burned up to ~18,000 barrels of oil per day in winter. It is a compulsory pilotage area served by the Atlantic Pilotage Authority, and accommodates tankers up to about 55,000 DWT, 200 m LOA and ~10.67 m draft, with ISPS-compliant terminal facilities; St. John's International Airport is about 40 km away.
