Port Colborne Grain Terminal

Port Colborne, ON · Municipal · City of Port Colborne · Welland Canal / Lake Erie (St. Lawrence Seaway System)

The Port Colborne grain terminal is a historic bulk grain facility on Lake Erie at the south end of the Welland Canal, where it meets the lake within the St. Lawrence Seaway System. For more than 125 years it served as a multimodal hub for receiving, storing and transporting grain, connecting Great Lakes region products to global markets via vessel, an active rail spur to the terminal, and an adjacent truck road. The property is owned by the City of Port Colborne and has sat vacant since the end of 2024; Council declined three expressions of interest and launched public consultation in 2025 to determine the site's future use. ADM Milling continues to operate an adjacent flour mill (1 King St) that produces flours, bakery mixes and wheat-derived ingredients. The broader Port Colborne port area also handles other bulk goods (aggregates, energy products) and over-dimensional project cargo, with stevedoring by Snider Dock Service and Great Lakes Stevedoring, and is co-managed by the St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corporation, the City, and private operators.
