La Romaine (La Romaine commercial wharf)
La Romaine, QC · Transport Canada · Transport Canada · Gulf of St. Lawrence (Lower North Shore / Côte-Nord)
La Romaine is a Transport Canada remote port facility on the Lower North Shore (Côte-Nord) of Quebec, on the north shore of the Gulf of St. Lawrence, roughly 250 km east of Havre-Saint-Pierre and about 1,000 km east of Quebec City. Its marine infrastructure consists of an approach protected on each side by riprap plus a steel sheet-pile commercial wharf with two berths. The wharf serves the isolated Innu community of La Romaine (Unamen Shipu), which has no road access; it is a scheduled port of call for Relais Nordik's cargo-passenger ship Bella Desgagnés, the essential supply line that brings freight, food, medicine and construction materials to the coast. As a remote facility, it serves a community where marine transportation is the primary mode of transportation.
